It was such a great day together as Lorna encouraged the delegates in how we sense God in creative writing. The practical illustrations in the afternoon, were well received by all and there were many testimonies of how God spoke to us through these exercises. Lorna shared with us on the importance of being still in the presence of God and waiting for Holy Spirit to speak. There was clear Biblical teaching on the prophetic and the question was asked 'Is our writing comforting, edifying and building up others?. Is our writing based upon Scripture?

It was a great second day, with twelve churches represented, from various places across the country. My friends Clive and Gaylia Logan from Sydney Australia, brought great and challenging words on the 'alignment of our divine assignment' and the 'alignment of our emotions in worship'. This was a very timley word for us all. The practical activations both in the morning and afternoon from the two teaching sessions helped us to outwork the words that were spoken through worship.

The first day was well received by the people that came from the eight churches represented. The theme of the day was around 'Releasing Heaven's song'. In the afternoon we broke into practical activations as people shared spontaneous song and what they felt God was saying through the worship and the word. Many felt a release in their spirits to go back into the local context. One of the delegates drew an art picture of a flower in bud and felt the word 'cultivate' was a relevant word for Heart and Skill this year, as we desire to cultivate the spirtual gifts especially prophecy to benefit the Church. I have already been encouraged by the release of creativity through poetry and song which was expressed on the day and following the day. I am looking forward to all that God has instore for day two when we explore the theme of 'alignment for your divine assignment' and ' aligning our emotions in worship'. - Alison Key

Our fourth day of Heart & Skill was another great one! We had our very own Lindsey Yongo sharing about “Worship, Mission and the Miraculous.” She spoke about how the three are linked, and shared some of her personal experiences of seeing miracles whilst on Mission in a small African village -

When God moves, it is our job to be nothing more than a vessel for Him. Obedient servants, giving ourselves as offerings for His will. “I never want my walk with Jesus, and my faith in God to take me to a place where I try to manipulate His Spirit to my own agenda.” Lindsey then brought it all together by relating this to our posture in worship. When the Spirit moves, we’re not there to bend Him to our will in that moment. Our job is to host Him and facilitate His purpose in whatever way we can. It was a great reminder of our responsibility in all areas of life to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, and how our personal time in his presence should motivate us to give something out.

The rest of the day was filled with fellowship over lunch, followed by our breakout workshops (song-writing, guitar development, art, and band coordination) which saw more fruit and built on the previous sessions. These days very much operate as a training ground for people of various churches and circles, and it’s so great to see people leave fired up to apply what they’ve learnt from these sessions in different areas of their lives. We can’t wait for more!

Day three proved to be the day where things started to come together with regards to what the Father is speaking to us about this year as a group. We were joined, once again, by Mark and Simone Beswick from CLM church in Coventry, who brought such sensitive teaching and wisdom from their hearts. Mark shared a beautiful message about man being made for communion with God. Our purpose is to walk with him and praise him all the days of our lives – and he highlighted the importance of remaining in that truth even in our confusion and disappointment.

“It’s easy to praise him when things are going well. It takes strength and character to worship him when they aren’t. we need to repent of the times when our ‘wanting’ made us forget that he is God, and we are not.” – Mark Beswick

Psalm 23 quickly became the focal point of the day. As we worshiped together, there was this beautiful sense of openness and vulnerability in the room. As we sang “with every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God!”, there was a ‘letting go’ and an acknowledgment of the definitive truth in what Mark spoke on earlier.

Then, quite spontaneously so, we broke into different groups and prayed for each other in line with different verses from Psalm 23. We split depending on which verse resonated most in people’s spirits. It was a beautiful time of being able to stand with one another and align ourselves with the timeless truth of the words.

This same psalm has been the inspiration for multiple songs that are being crafted in these spaces too, and we’re excited to keep working on them when we join back together at the end of March

The Father is clearly reminding his children that his unwavering love and faithfulness should always be our rock. He’s our Good Shepherd now and forever, and he is worthy to be praised! As always, we’re excited for all that is still to come

           HEART & SKILL YEAR 3: Day 2

everything we have and pour it at his feet? Day 2 of Heart & Skill felt like it was

centered around this question. What does it cost? Our comfort? Our time? Our

control, maybe? Guest speaker Helen Yousaf challenged us with this question

as she shared her heart for worship and her experiences in pursuing obedience

to the Holy Spirit throughout her years of ministry.

“I love being care-free in His care, but I don’t want to be careless. I love to be child-like, but

not childish. There is a difference. We need to die to our adult selves, and become like

           children again.” – Helen Yousaf

Walking with God requires us to die to ourselves over and over again. Dying to

our sin, dying to our agendas, dying to our shame… all so we can simply listen

to Him and obey. Quieten your mind, and pay attention. What is He saying to

           you today?

God is moving in these spaces. As we built on what was started in September,

songs were written, progress was made in instrument learning, and comfort

zones were shattered, allowing people to express their worship to the Father

in freedom and confidence. It was a powerful, Spirit-filled day and we can’t

wait to come together again in January!

Could you remain quiet with Me for hours

Just watching the day move by

Or would you be constantly asking for words

For guidance and steps for life.

Would you be restless sat beside Me?

Thinking I should say something more

Or could you be simply satisfied

With my presence and nothing more.

Can your eyes not blur the line

           Nor your heart comprehend

           That just because of Majesty

You fail to see Me as a friend.

Why do you assume that formal prayers

And depth of study of My Words

Could ever replace that needed stillness

           No strings or presumptions attached

           HEART & SKILL 2023 - Aaron Jenkins

Have you ever experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit in a way so tangible and peaceful that all you want to do is sit in it and soak up the atmosphere for as long as possible? If there was one take away from this first day of Heart & Skill year three, it’s that through all the teaching, discussions, breakout groups, fellowship and worship, His presence was felt so strongly. There was an overwhelming sense of His guidance in all that was shared and displayed throughout the day.

The word brought to us by Mark Beswick, who joined us from CLM Church in Coventry with his wife, Simone, was a game changer for establishing the foundations on which we need to build our perspective for worship.

“We don’t see with our eyes, we see with our brain. What we think impacts what we see. In the same way, how we think about God will impact how we see him.” –

As the day went on, and we split into different skill based workshops, that weight of his presence was never lost. Then when we gathered together again for the final hour or so, it felt like a crescendo of everything from the rest of the day. People broke out with hand-written poems and verses of songs from their hearts, passages of scripture spoken aloud as an offering to the Father, and prophetic words for one another. It culminated in a time of encouragement, as each church represented was prayed over and their

It was a precious day, filled with beautiful expressions of worship, encounters with the Holy Spirit, fellowship, and wisdom filled teaching. We can’t wait for week two!

I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” - Psalm 63
